On Thursday, Rajkot’s District Land Valuation Committee (DLVC) approved a proposal to give the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) 100 acres for a new dairy plant in Dhandhani village on the city’s eastern outskirts. The suggestion has now been forwarded to the state administration for consideration.

The decision comes months after the dairy federation, which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, turned down a government offer of 70 acres in the Navagam village, claiming the land valuation as being too high to finance.

The DLVC met on Thursday, headed by Rajkot district collector Arun Mahesh Babu, to finalise parcels of land to be allotted to GCMMF and to propose a per-square-meter land fee to be charged on the dairy major. “The committee recommended the land rate and agreed to submit the proposal for approval to the SLVC (state land value committee). The state government would make the final decision on the tariff “Babu went on to say.

The district administration has granted GCMMF land in the Dhandhani and Gadhka village revenue jurisdictions for the latter’s Rs. 500 crore milk processing factory. All Amul milk-based products will be manufactured at the proposed factory, which will have a processing capacity of 30 lakh litres per day (llpd).
