According to the sugar cooperatives body NFCSFL, the country’s sugar production increased by 4.75 percent to 115.70 lakh tonnes during the October-December period of the 2021-22 season. In the same period of the 2020-21 season, sugar output was 110.45 lakh tonnes. From October to September, the sugar season is in full swing.

According to the latest data given by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd, about 491 mills crushed 1227.17 lakh tonnes of sugarcane as of December 31, 2021, up from the previous year’s time (NFCSFL).

According to the NFCSFL, sugar production in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s top sugar-producing state, fell to 30.90 lakh tonne in October-December 2021-22, compared to 33.65 lakh tonne the previous year.

However, production in Maharashtra, the country’s second-largest sugar-producing state, jumped to 45.75 lakh tonne from 39.85 lakh tonne over the same time, while production in Karnataka increased to 24.90 lakh tonne from 24.15 lakh tonne.

Gujarat’s sugar production remained slightly higher in October-December this year, at 3.40 lakh tonne, compared to 3.35 lakh tonne the previous year.

According to the NFCSFL data, production increased somewhat in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.

It stated that overall sugar output in the 2021-22 season is expected to be 315 lakh tonne, up from 311.05 lakh tonne in the previous season.
