According to an official, the NTPC Vindhyanchal power plant in Madhya Pradesh has set a goal of establishing a carbon capture plant by 2023 to reduce pollution. He claims that the amount of CO2 emitted into the environment will be reduced, and that the methanol produced as a by-product will be useful.

The head of the Vindhyachal project, S C Naik, told reporters that the plant is completely committed to the environment and that over 25 lakh saplings have already been planted in the area to make it a greener belt.

He claims that the pilot project will be the first of its kind not only in India, but worldwide, and that it will be operational by 2023.

NTPC Vindhyachal is the country’s largest power plant, having a total installed capacity of 4,783 MW generated by coal, solar, and hydro sources, according to Naik.

Vindhyachal power plant in Madhya Pradesh, which is also the country’s largest electricity-producing station, has won the IPMA International Project Excellence Silver Award for project management for the year 2016.

According to the company, a unit of the 4760 megawatts project was completed ahead of schedule — it was synchronised on August 6, last year, and reached full load the same day, only 26 months after construction began.

The IPMA organisers presented the award to Rajesh Kumar Bhatnagar, Executive Director of the Vindhyachal project, and SK Roy, Executive Director, Operations, at an award ceremony in Warsaw, Poland.

Global industrial giant GE received gold for its South Africa Escom project, and China State Construction received bronze for its Mauritius Airport Expansion project.
