Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, stated that having authentic and quality seeds is critical for good crop production. Keeping this in mind, the Central Government has launched the Beej Gram Yojana to benefit farmers. The Centre provides farmers with improved varieties of seeds under this scheme.
In response to a question about fertiliser availability and subsidies, Choudhary stated that, despite a significant increase in DAP prices, the central government had continued to provide DAP subsidies to farmers. In addition, he stated that the government had increased the subsidy on DAP fertilisers from Rs 1212 to Rs 1662 per bag. This demonstrates the central government’s commitment to farmers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Speaking about the facilities provided by the central government to farmers, the Minister stated that under PM Modi’s leadership and due to farmers’ hard work, the production of horticultural crops in the country has now surpassed the production of other crops.
Under the ‘Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture’ i.e. MIDH scheme, the Ministry of Agriculture has been working continuously since 2014-15 to realize the potential of the horticulture sector.
Choudhary said that this horticulture mission has promoted the best practices used in the fields. This has greatly improved the productivity and quality of production.
It has not only made India self-reliant in the horticulture sector but has also contributed significantly in achieving goals like hunger, good health, poverty alleviation, and gender equality.
